About psyllium husks

Psyllium is a form of dietary fibre sourced from the Plantago ovata plant, specifically from the husks of the plant’s seed. It sometimes goes by the name Ispaghula. Psyllium is produced commercially mainly for its mucilage content. The term “mucilage” describes a group of clear, colourless gelling agents derived from plants. The mucilage obtained from psyllium comes from the seed coat. Mucilage is obtained by mechanical milling (i.e. grinding) of the outer layer of the seed. Mucilage yield amounts to about 25% (by weight) of the total seed yield. Plantago-seed mucilage is often referred to as husk, or psyllium husk. The milled seed mucilage is a white fibrous material that is hydrophilic, meaning that its molecular structure causes it to attract and bind to water. Upon absorbing water, the mucilaginous gel that forms increases in volume by ten times or more.

Finally! I found a milk free meal replacement shake. I have just received my vanilla shake – only took two days to arrive – thank you. So happy! Now I can lose weight easily as I find it easier to use shakes ! Will be back 🙂

Before changing to a vegan diet from veggie, I used the cambridge diet as a weight loss/ convenience diet. After searching for a tasty, dairy free alternative I came across this. I’m hooked! I mix with soya milk and find it filling and tasty with no “artificial sweetener” after taste. I agree with some other reviews…the pack sizes could be larger…and perhaps a breakdown of vitamin and mineral content per serving…however they are my only criticisms….this could be a vegans answer to the cambridge diet….so maybe wise to take these suggestions on board. It has roughly the same carbs, protein and fat as the cambridge diet…so all fantastic there. In short….I love it!!

I have been struggling for some time with what to have for breakfast that has all the dietary requirements that I need. On discovering this product about a year ago I have ordered it ever since I just wish the containers were bigger as I spend a lot of money on them.

great meal replacement, mixes well, good flavour, is totally dairy free as it says on the tin, bit pricy for the size of tin but worth it.

I’ve finally found a protein drink that does not upset my stomach. I use it pre and post workout, and I find it gives me that extra bit of strength when lifting weights and it helps my body recover. The taste isn’t to bad when mixed with a little fruit juice or cordial. Highly recommended. Please keep it in stock.

a palatable plain flavour, exactly as described. I would recomend this item, although it’s not cheap it is a quality product when used with a shaker to mix it well.

I’ve spent hours searching weight loss and body building websites for a protein powder that is both diary and gluten free and this was the best I could find. The flavour is great, especially when mixed with apple juice – it tastes like apple pie. You do have to shake it up in a bottle to prevent lumps as stirring just won’t do the trick. It does also have a powdery texture that even warm soya milk couldn’t remove which was a bit disappointing. I wouldn’t say that this powder could be used as a Meal replacement as it isn’t satisfying enough. I’d recommend trying to eat 5 portions of fruit and veg alongside taking 2 shakes a day and a healthy evening meal in order to achieve weight loss goals.

I was looking for a nutritious meal-replacement suppliment because my energy levels were low due to numerous food allergies; this ticked all the boxes: low fat, dairy, wheat, sugar, and gluten free, and it tastes great too! I have been using this product in combination with Hemp Protein Powder PURE – 500g tub for a week now and I am feeling so much better, my energy levels are up and, although I am ingesting calories more than before, my weight is down (an added bonus). I would happily recommend this products to anyone wanting to improve their excersice levels, lose weight or simple have the satisfaction of excellent nutrition.

This stuff is excellent, it makes a very satisfying (and tasty) smoothie that is all I need for lunch. It took me ages to find one that was lactose free. I would definitely recommend it. I was pleased with supplier too as it arrived very quickly.
